I recently had the opportunity to test the Vibram XS Road Cleat, a relatively affordable option for road cyclists looking to upgrade their footwear. My first impressions were positive - the cleat itself is compact and weighs in at a mere 38 grams, making it an attractive choice for those seeking to shave precious grams from their setup. The build quality is solid, with a durable plastic construction that should withstand the rigors of regular use.

In terms of performance, I was pleased to find that the XS Road Cleat provided a secure and efficient connection to my pedals. The cleat's compact design allowed for a more aggressive cleat/pedal interface, which translated to improved power transfer and a more direct feel on the bike. I noticed a slight improvement in my cadence and overall pedaling efficiency, particularly during high-cadence efforts.

However, I did experience some minor issues with comfort during longer rides. The XS Road Cleat's minimalist design sacrifices some cushioning and support, which may be a concern for riders with sensitive feet or those who plan to ride for extended periods. Additionally, the cleat's compact size made it slightly more difficult to adjust to my preferred cleat/pedal alignment, requiring a bit more fiddling than I'm accustomed to.
